North Mankato Police clarify information circulated on social media

The North Mankato Police Department is aware of information posted online in which a parent had reported her teenage son missing from Upper North Mankato and asked for the public’s help in locating him.

In the post, the author stated that she was told by police that she had to wait 24 hours before filing a missing person report. She characterized the police as minimizing the situation as simply juvenile behavior, and expressed concern that police were not taking action.

The North Mankato Police Department was notified after the social media posts through a 911 call reporting the teenager missing on August 11th, 2026 at 9:42 p.m.

Prior to that 911 call, officers from the North Mankato Police Department had no contact or conversation with the parents and had no knowledge of the missing teenager.

Once notified, North Mankato officers responded and the teenager was subsequently located later that evening.
The North Mankato Police Department reminds the public that there is no requirement to wait 24 hours before reporting a person missing.
