Only Seven Of 48 Charged In Meal Fraud Scheme Jailed
(Minneapolis, MN) — Only seven of the 48 people charged in the Feeding Our Future meal fraud scheme are behind bars. Mekfira Hussein is one of those in custody and had booked a one-way flight to Ethiopia that was set to leave Tuesday night. Prosecutors say she stole nearly seven-million dollars through her nonprofit under the sponsorship of Feeding Our Future in October 2020. The complaint against her alleges she paid over 80-thousand dollars in kickbacks to a Feeding Our Future employee, who is also named as a defendant in the indictments but is no longer in the U.S.
