A Minnesota Department of Health study finds a significant drop in the number of home radon tests during real estate sales last year. M-D-H Indoor Air Program supervisor Dan Tranter says some buyers were skipping home inspections and radon tests in a hot housing market:

“So more specifically back in 2020 we had 32 thousand tests done in home sales and last year in 2022 that was just under 20 thousand. That’s a decline of 39 percent so we’re concerned about this.”

Tranter says home sales is an important opportunity to do radon testing in Minnesota.  Forty percent of homes in the state have elevated levels of the colorless, odorless gas.
