Motorists are advised to expect delays on Highways 14, 15, 30, 60, 99, and 169 in south central Minnesota beginning July 21, weather permitting, as crews apply a seal coat.

The impacted highways include:

  • Highway 14: Highway 71 north of Sanborn to Springfield
  • Highway 15: Madelia to 170th Street, north of Hanska
  • Highway 30: Westbrook to Highway 71, east of Jeffers
  • Highway 60: Highway 14 south of Madison Lake to Highway 13 in Waterville
  • Highway 60 (eastbound): Highway 15 near Madelia to Lake Crystal
    • Multiple temporary one-day ramp closures near Madelia
  • Highway 99: Nicollet to St. Peter
  • Highway 169: Blue Earth to Elmore

Traffic will be controlled with flaggers and a pilot car. Motorists should expect delays, drive with caution, and watch for workers, equipment, and traffic control devices.

The seal coat is a preventative maintenance measure that provides a protective layer, reducing deterioration due to sun and moisture. Drivers are encouraged to slow down and be alert for loose gravel and oil in these areas.

The sealcoating process for each highway segment will take approximately a week. Crews will then return a couple weeks later to paint temporary striping, which will be done under traffic. The project is expected to be complete by late August, depending on weather and material availability. Crews will return next summer to apply permanent pavement markings.
