UPDATED: Officers Recover Mankato West Varsity Hockey Sticks after Theft in Duluth
The Mankato West boys hockey team has recovered some of its equipment following a theft at a northern Minnesota arena. The was set to play in the Heritage Hockey Classic tournament in Duluth on Saturday when they discovered that their sticks were missing. A release from the Duluth Police Department stated:
At approximately 10:50 p.m. Saturday, December 28, while on patrol, officers located a male walking in the 100 block of E 3rd St with a few of the items. The male stated he located the items behind the CHUM. The male didn’t match the description of the suspected individual and was lodged at the county jail for an unrelated warrant. Officers recovered the items and arrangements to return the items to its rightful owner are being made. This incident remains an active and ongoing investigation.
The team has started a GoFundMe to raise money to purchase new sticks for those affected, which has raised over $5,000 so far.
Thank you to all who have supported us the last 24+ hours.
A big stick tap to @DuluthMNPolice for their prompt investigation and continuing it. We believe the majority of the missing sticks have been recovered – unsure on condition.
We’ll know more in the coming days.#Family https://t.co/k1kx8AAi2c
