Suspect in Charlie Kirk Murder Confirmed to be in Custody

Friday, 9/12/25 9:20 AM: A suspect in the assassination of Charlie Kirk is in custody. Utah Governor Spencer Cox identified the suspect as 22-year-old Utah resident Tyler Robinson. He added a family member of Robinson went to police with information. Kirk died after being shot in the neck at a Turning Point event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. President Trump first made the announcement of the suspect being in custody during an interview with Fox News this morning.
Friday, 9/12/25 7:54 AM: President Trump says he has a “high degree of certainty” that the person who assassinated conservative activist Charlie Kirk has been arrested. He made the comment in an interview this morning with Fox News, saying more information would be made available later. Kirk was shot and killed on Wednesday while speaking at a college event in Utah.
Thursday, 9/11/25: Authorities are continuing their search for the gunman who killed conservative activist and Trump ally Charlie Kirk during a Turning Point event at Utah Valley University. Kirk was struck by a single bullet to the neck while speaking at the rally on Wednesday, in what officials are calling a “targeted political assassination.” The Utah Department of Public Safety believes the shooter fired from a nearby rooftop, and videos taken afterward appear to show a person running about 100 yards away. Two suspects were questioned and later cleared.
