Three New Transfer Pathway Programs Enable Students to Start their Bachelor’s Degree at SCC
Beginning this Fall Semester, students will be able to start their Accounting, English or History bachelor’s degree at South Central College (SCC). Through these new Minnesota State Transfer Pathway programs, students will earn their associate degree at SCC and be able to transfer 60 credits towards a related bachelor’s degree at Minnesota State University, Mankato, or one of six Minnesota State system universities.
Minnesota State Transfer Pathway degrees were established by the Minnesota State system of colleges and universities to enable students to complete the first half of their bachelor’s degree at a state college like SCC and then transfer seamlessly to a university with junior year status and many of their general education and prerequisite class requirements satisfied.
With the three new Transfer Pathways, South Central College now has 10 Transfer Pathway programs in total. In addition to the new Accounting, English and History options, SCC also offers Transfer Pathway associate degrees in Biology, Business, Communication Studies, Early Childhood Education, Economics, Pre-Social Work and Psychology.
For students whose education goals include a bachelor’s degree in other areas, SCC offers an associate of arts degree, which helps students meet the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum requirement and prepares them to transfer into a variety of university programs.
Last year, more than 200 students graduated from SCC with transfer degrees, preparing them to continue their education at a university.
With the growth of SCC’s transfer programs, the college has added a transfer advising coordinator to its advising team. This position works directly with students who have identified they will be transferring on after completing their associate degree at SCC. The position provides support to students navigating transfer requirements and deadlines to help ensure their transfer experience is as smooth as possible.
