Trial Set For Suspect In 29 Year Old Murder Case
The suspect in a murder that happened nearly 30 years ago is set to go on trial this week. Jerry Westrom is accused of killing Jeanne Ann “Jeanie” Childs, who was found dead in June 1993 with dozens of stab wounds in a Minneapolis apartment police say she used for prostitution. Prosecutors say DNA evidence collected from a hot dog napkin Westrom threw out at a hockey game in 2019 matched evidence from the crime scene. Westrom was arrested in February 2019 after the match was confirmed and is charged with second-degree murder. He has pleaded not guilty and jury selection is scheduled to continue today.
