Two Injured in ATV Crash in South Bend Township

On Sunday, August 14th deputies responded to an accident with injuries on the river  embankment adjacent to Eleanor Street in South Bend Township. Two people were riding a  2016 Polaris ATV northbound on the embankment and were thrown from the machine as it rolled downhill towards the river.

Initial information is that 32-year-old Karissa Beth Bode of North Mankato was operating the  ATV and 30-year-old Joshua Michael Wieland of rural Mankato was the passenger. Karissa  Bode suffered serious injuries and remains hospitalized. Joshua Wieland declined medical  treatment at the scene but has since been hospitalized.

Agencies that assisted include Mankato Department of Public Safety – Police, North Mankato  Police, Mayo Ambulance, and the South Bend Fire Department. Neither rider was wearing a  helmet and cause of the crash remains under investigation.
