For the second year in a row, Greater Mankato Area United Way will distribute paperback copies of its children’s picture book, The Kindness Booth, to first-grade students in Blue Earth, Le Sueur, Nicollet and Waseca counties, through a donation from Capstone.

United Way and volunteers are delivering approximately 2,000 books to first-grade students and teachers in both public and private schools in United Way’s four-county service area throughout January.

Distributions to Mankato Area Public Schools take place the week of January 13. Book author Laura K. Murray of United Way will read the story to students. Capstone leadership and volunteers will be present.

The Kindness Booth story follows a group of friends who set out to make the day brighter for their neighborhood through acts of kindness. Greater Mankato Area United Way also benefits from all books sold. Learn about the project and view the pdf activity kit at MankatoUnitedWay.org/book.
Since the book’s release in January 2024, teachers and students have reported using The Kindness Booth in their learning and classroom activities. The book was recently featured in The Minnesota Star Tribune’s list of recommended picture books.
