VINE Offering a Free Diabetes Prevention Program
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approximately 98 million Americans – more than 1 in 3 adults – have prediabetes. This means their blood sugar levels are elevated but not high enough for a type 2 diabetes diagnosis. Prediabetes often has no symptoms, so many people are unaware they even have it. Those who act quickly and make lifestyle changes can delay the onset of developing diabetes.
VINE is offering a free diabetes prevention program to help those locally affected by the disease.
“Diabetes affects many older adults,” VINE’s Health and Fitness Center Manager, Jen Wunderlich said, “which is why we offer this evidence-based health program in our community.”
VINE’s Diabetes Prevention Program has been proven to help people lose weight, eat healthier, get active, and reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes. A trained lifestyle coach and class members offer help and support over the course of a year.
The Diabetes Prevention Program begins on Thursday, April 17 and will meet weekly at the VINE Adult Community Center from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. The program is free and open to the public.
Individuals who know or believe they have prediabetes can learn more about the program at an informational meeting at the VINE Adult Community Center on Thursday, April 3 from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Those interested can learn more about the program and register for one of the informational meetings online at vineovlunteers.org or by calling Wunderlich at (507) 386-5588.
