The focus is outdoor safety on this day two (Tues) of Winter Hazard Awareness Week.  State Patrol Sergeant Jesse Grabow says keep extra warm coats, sleeping bags and blankets in your vehicle.  Grabow says he sees a lot of people under-dressed for the weather:

“They’ll just throw a sweatshirt on and shorts.  I’ve seen people hop out with flip-flops in below-zero weather.  Not safe, not smart.”

Keep a winter survival kit in your vehicle with snack bars,  bottles of water and hand warmers.  Make sure you have scrapers, washer fluid full and jumper cables.  Grabow says always keep the tank more than half full, take a cell phone and keep a charger in your vehicle.  Check road conditions and let someone know your route.  And Grabow says if you’re stranded, unless you’re in a hazardous spot it’s best to stay with the vehicle until help arrives.
