Winthrop Man Charged in Murder of Sibley County Farmer
A Winthrop man is jailed on 500 thousand dollars conditional bond for a September 2022 homicide on a farm site in rural Sibley County.
Forty-six-year-old Travis Bauer is charged with the second-degree murder of 79-year-old Dennis Weitzenkamp. Police found Weitzenkamp dead in his machine shed with a gunshot wound to the back of the head. Investigators say lab tests confirmed the presence of gunshot residue on Bauer’s clothing, hat and belt. The criminal complaint says Bauer had helped Dennis farm his land for many years and would benefit financially from his death. Bauer received calls that day warning he was late on mortgage payments and could lose his home.
