VINE Offering a Free Diabetes Prevention Program
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 26.4 million Americans 65 years and older have prediabetes, but many do not know they have it. Those who act quickly and make lifestyle changes can delay the onset of developing diabetes.
VINE Faith in Action is committed to helping fight this disease by offering a free diabetes prevention program to help those locally affected by the disease.
“Diabetes is a growing problem, including here in Mankato,” VINE’s Health & Fitness Center Manager, Jen Wunderlich said.
VINE’s Diabetes Prevention Program helps people lose weight, eat healthier, get active, and reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes. A lifestyle coach and class members offer help and support over the course of a year.
The program begins on Tuesday, February 7, and will meet weekly at the VINE Adult Community Center from 1:30 – 2:30 pm. The program is free and open to the public.
Individuals who know or believe they have prediabetes can learn more about the program at an information meeting at the VINE Adult Community Center on Tuesday, January 17 from 1:30 – 2:30 pm. Those interested can learn more about the program and register for the informational meeting online at vineovlunteers.org or by calling Wunderlich at (507) 386-5588.
