According to the criminal complaint:
On December 31, 2024 approximately 5:28 PM, dispatch received a call from an individual reporting there was glass and a handgun lying in the parking lot of a business in Blue Earth County. At 5:37 PM, dispatch received a call from a hospital reporting a gunshot victim had just arrived. Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office deputies and detectives responded to the call. The business provided BECSO surveillance video of an incident from the business’ parking lot that occurred at approximately 5:00 PM.
A person identified as Abdikhadar Fakhi Mohidin is seen walking to the parking lot towards a parked vehicle BECSO identified as a four door Kia Soul. Mohidin enters the rear passenger door on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Approximately 20 seconds later, a person exits the driver’s door and faces towards the rear driver’s side passenger door. Mohidin then exits the vehicle and points a handgun at Witness 1 and fires. Mohidin then retreats towards the back of the vehicle. Witness 1 then returns fire while walking towards the front of the vehicle. Mohidin and Witness 1 exchange gunfire. The victim exits the passenger side of the Kia during the gunfire and appears bent over to avoid the gunfire. As the victim tries to to get back into the passenger side front door, Mohidin comes from the rear of the vehicle to the passenger side and fires shots at the victim while the victim has her back to Mohidin.
Witness 1 then drops her handgun and gets into the driver’s seat of the Kia and starts to drive away. Mohidin then jumps into the front passenger seat onto the victim. The Kia then drives about 120 feet before Mohidin falls out of the vehicle onto the parking lot. Mohidin is seen picking up his phone and then running across Highway 169 in the same direction that he walked from prior to the shooting. Additional surveillance footage of Mohidin in the area showed Mohidin running towards a residence. The owner of the residence gave BECSO Deputies permission to enter the residence to look for Mohidin. Pants and a coat matching those worn by Mohidin in the surveillance video were located and had suspected blood on them. Mohidin had freshly skinned knees that were actively bleeding. Mohidin also was observed to have blood on his hands. Deputies located a damaged cell phone consistent with the one Mohidin is seen picking up off the ground in the surveillance video. Mohidin’s shoes were consistent with the shoes he was wearing at the shooting.
Mohidin initially denied leaving the residence and being involved in the shooting. He claimed his injuries occurred when he was wrestling with Witness 3. Witness 3 refused to answer any questions.
BECSO learned that the Victim had arrived at the hospital at approximately 5:23 PM. Detectives responded to the hospital and learned the victim had a gunshot wound to the leg and had a shattered femur. The victim reported she was sleeping in her vehicle and awoke to gunshots. The victim exited the vehicle and tried to hide behind it because the shooter was on the driver’s side. The victim stated that sometime during this she was shot in the leg. The victim did not know if she was shot when she was outside the vehicle or inside the vehicle. The victim was airlifted to Rochester to receive emergency surgery.
Mohidin does not have a valid permit to carry a handgun.
The investigation is ongoing.
