- The National Weather Service confirms a tornado touchdown between Kenyon and Faribault in southern Minnesota on Monday night. Officials say the tornado has a preliminary damage rating of at least EF-1. That indicates a moderate tornado with wind speeds ranging from 86 to 110 miles per hour. Crews are still assessing the damage in the Rice County area.
- Former D-F-L state Senator Matt Little of Lakeville plans to run for Congress in Minnesota’s 2nd District next year. Congresswoman Angie Craig announced this week that she’s running for the seat of retiring U-S Senator Tina Smith in 2026. Little says in a campaign release that he’s running for “every underdog out there, for every person working their tail off, chasing the American dream.” Little served as mayor of Lakeville for two terms before being elected to the Minnesota Senate in 2016.
- A Minnesota lawmaker is moving closer to awarding a Congressional Gold Medal to the “Miracle on Ice” Olympic team. The bill’s sponsor is Representative Pete Stauber from Duluth. The legislation has successfully passed through the U.S. House and has garnered bipartisan support in the Senate, including from Minnesota Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith. If approved, the bill would award three Congressional Gold Medals to the U.S. Olympic men’s hockey team that defeated the Soviet Union to win gold during the 1980 Winter Olympics.
