University of Minnesota Professor to Discuss Preventing Falls by Older Adults in Minnesota State Mankato’s Nov. 18 Tenorio Research Lectureship
University of Minnesota faculty member Siobhan McMahon will discuss strategies for preventing falls by older adults on Tuesday, Nov. 18 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Ostrander Auditorium (located in Centennial Student Union).
McMahon’s lecture, titled “Implementing Evidence: A Team Approach to Falls Prevention among Community-Dwelling Older Adults,” is free and open to the public. Free parking will be available in the visitors pay lot (lot 4) across from the CSU.
McMahon, an associate professor and director of the Center on Aging Science and Care Innovation at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing, will discuss how falls can be a significant danger for older adults in Minnesota.
In her lecture, McMahon will also describe what contributes to the risk of falls, evidence-based strategies to prevent falls and how to create a fall prevention plan.
McMahon’s presentation is part of the University’s Tenorio Research Series, named for Narciso (Norge) and Luth Tenorio, who both taught for more than 30 years at Minnesota State Mankato. Norge Tenorio served as the chair of Minnesota State Mankato’s Department of Business Law before retiring. Luth Tenorio retired in 2000 as the dean of the College of Nursing at Seattle University.
