Blue Earth County Library System Announces Scholars in the Stacks Series
The Blue Earth County Library System (BECLS) is pleased to announce the launch of Scholars in the Stacks, a new series featuring local experts presenting on their areas of research and professional practice.
This series begins with “Direct-to-Consumer Neurotechnology with Dr. Adam Steiner” on Saturday, December 6 at 11 AM. Dr. Steiner will discuss how technology, such as Fitbit-style devices, robot arms, and smart glasses with embedded neurotechnology – which is technology that interacts with the nervous system to monitor or modify its activity – work and how they will impact our society. Questions are encouraged, and demos of this technology will be provided at the end of the event.
Dr. Kate Blue’s “Letting the Dead Speak: The Application of Biological Anthropology in Real World Scenarios” follows on Saturday, December 20 at 11 AM. Dr. Blue will speak on applying her skills in studying bones (osteology) in the forensic field on behalf of law enforcement and medical examiner’s offices, as well as her ongoing collaborations with MnDOT, Cultural Resource Management (CRM) firms, and tribes. Questions are encouraged and Dr. Blue will demonstrate her expertise on bones and casts.
Both of these free events are open to the public and take place at the Blue Earth County Library. This program is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant provided by the Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
