Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Shooting at Benco Electric Cooperative Parking Lot

On December 31st deputies were dispatched to the Benco Electric Cooperative parking lot at 20946 549th Avenue to investigate broken glass and a handgun found in the parking lot. A short time later deputies were notified that a female had arrived at MCHS with an apparent gunshot wound.
Surveillance footage from Benco showed two individuals firing handguns at one another next to a vehicle in the parking lot. It is believed the female at MCHS with the apparent gunshot was present during the shooting, but not an active participant.

Deputies located 18-year-old Abdikhadar Fakhi Mohidin of Morehead at a nearby residence. Abdikhadar Mohidin appeared consistent with one of the shooters in the video and he was taken into custody.

The incident appears drug related with suspected marijuana located in proximity to the glass and handgun found in the parking lot. The gunshot victim sustained a non-life-threatening injury and remains hospitalized.

The investigation is active and no additional information, including the identities of others involved, will be released at this time. The Sheriff’s Office does not believe there is any additional risk or threat to the public.
