Cities, counties, school districts renew push for special session to pass state budget bills

Seventeen organizations representing Minnesota cities, counties and school districts are renewing calls for a legislative special session to pass a number of state budget bills left undone at the end of May.  Gary Carlson with the League of Minnesota Cities says local governments are setting their budgets, and there could be property tax increases if the legislature doesn’t pass those bills:

“It leaves local officials little choice but to assume that they’re going to have to effectively fund any additional priorities all through local resources, even if those are state priorities or statewide priorities.”

Governor Tim Walz pushed most of the summer for a special session but Senate Republicans resisted, warning it will unleash another round of spending — instead of significant permanent tax cuts.
