Conditional Use Permit to Create Mine Bordering Red Jacket Valley Park Withdrawn

A conditional use permit filed to create a mine bordering Red Jacket Valley Park has been withdrawn. Local contractor Sam Borneke recently acquired a 9 acre parcel of land bordering the park and had hoped to create a gravel mine. But local residents raised concerns regarding the project, such as noise, deforestation and disturbances for those who regularly use the park. The land was also designated as “conservation” and “wetland” located in a floodplain.

A change.org petition received over 2,500 signatures, as well as numerous video responses opposing the project.

A post on the petition noted that the permit was withdrawn Tuesday morning.
