ECHO Food Shelf to hold 10th annual Tackle Hunger Event at “Jug Game” Friday, Sept. 12
ECHO Food Shelf will once again hold its Tackle Hunger Event during the annual Jug Game between the Mankato West and Mankato East football teams on Friday, Sept. 12. The game is scheduled to be held at Blakeslee Stadium on the Minnesota State University, Mankato campus.
Fans for both teams are encouraged to bring non-perishable food or cash donations to the game. The team that contributes the most pounds and/or money before the end of the second quarter wins the trophy; the winner will be announced at halftime.
Tackle Hunger started in 2015 and has been held every year since except 2020. East has won the trophy seven times and West twice. In total, more than 12,000 pounds of food have been donated during the competition. The goal is to get that number up to 15,000 during the 10th anniversary event.
Donations will be collected at the entry gates at Blakeslee Stadium. Contributions can be made in advance of the game at www.echofoodshelf.org (note the team being supported in the “special instructions” space) or at ECHO’s location at 1014 S. Front Street in Mankato. All cash donations will support food and operational costs.
ECHO Food Shelf has been providing emergency food assistance to people in Mankato, North Mankato and surrounding communities since 1981. Each month, more than 200,000 pounds of found are distributed to more than 12,000 people in Blue Earth and surrounding counties.
