February Public Safety Report Shows Drop in Group A Offenses, Increase in Group B Offenses
Mankato Department of Public Safety released their February Public Safety Report, which showed a 21% drop in Group A Offenses in February of 2025 compared to February 2024. Group A Offenses include:
Arson, Assault, Bribery, Burglary – Residential, Burglary – Commercial, Counterfeiting/Forgery, Criminal Damage to Property, Drug/Narcotic, Violations, Embezzlement, Extortion/Blackmail, Fraud Offenses, Gambling Offenses, Homicide Offenses, Human Trafficking Offenses, Kidnapping/Abduction, Larceny-Theft Offenses, Motor Vehicle Theft, Pornography/Obscene Material, Prostitution Offenses, Robbery, Sex Offenses, Stolen Property Offenses, Weapon law Violations, Animal Cruelty.
There were 157 total Group A offenses in February 2025. This compares to 198 Group A offenses in February of 2024, and represents a 21%% decrease from 2024 to 2025. Weapon Law offenses jumped the highest, from 2 offenses in 2024 to 7 in 2025. The biggest drop occurred in Larceny-Theft offenses, which dropped from 71 in 2024, to 51 in 2025, a 28% drop.
Year to date there have been 356 Group A offenses. This is down 21%% from the start of 2024, which saw 451 Group A offenses through January and February.
There were 531 Group B offenses in February 2025. This compares to 482 in February of 2024, and represents a 10%% increase. Group B offenses include:
Curfew/Loitering/Vagrancy, Disorderly Conduct, Driving Under the Influence, Family Offenses, Non-Violent, Liquor Law Violations, Trespass of Real Property, All Other Offenses, NIBRS Non-Reportable Offenses.
The largest increase among Group B offenses was Driving Under the Influence, which rose from 17 offenses in February 2024, to 25 in February 2025, and was a 47% increase.
Total Year to Date Group A and B offenses rose from 680 in 2024, to 688 in 2025, which was a 1% increase. Total police calls for service is down 9% so far in 2025, with 2,162 calls so far in 2025. This compares to 2381 calls for service through January and February in 2024.
