Four Mavericks Garner All-NSIC Honors

BURNSVILLE, Minn. — A total of four Minnesota State softball players including Maddie HelinNyah HulbertMaddie Oetzmann and Hannah Tong were named to the All-NSIC Second Team for their efforts on the field this season.

An outfielder from Harris, Minn., Maddie Helin is one of two Mavericks who has started in all 54 of MSU’s games this season. Helin is batting .361 and ranks second on the team in hits with 52. She also ranks second on the team in runs scored with 37 and third on the team in runs batted in with 32. Helin is currently on a seven-game hitting streak as well.

An outfielder from Norwalk, Iowa, Nyah Hulbert has played in 47 games this season, including 28 starts. She owns a team-leading .392 batting average and leads the team in slugging percentage at .686. Hulbert ranks second on the team in stolen bases with 10 and is tied for the team-lead in triples with three. Hulbert ended MSU’s regular season schedule on a nine-game hitting streak, which included a total of 16 hits.

A pitcher from Urbandale, Minn., Maddie Oetzmann leads the Maverick pitching staff this season with a 16-6 record and a 3.13 ERA. Oetzmann has struck out a team-leading 138 batters and has held opposing hitters to a .248 batting average. She has thrown 15 complete games, including three shutouts, in 156.2 innings.

A designated player from Stacy, Minn., Hannah Tong has played in 49 games for the Mavericks this season, including 46 starts. Tong is batting .376 on the season and leads the team in hits with 53 and is tied for the team-lead in home runs with nine. She also ranks second in runs batted in with 37 and second on the team in doubles with 15. Tong finished the regular season schedule recording at least one hit in eight of her last nine games.

Minnesota State continues its season in the NSIC Tournament on Thursday as it takes on Augustana. First pitch is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at Bowden Field in Sioux Falls, S.D.
