GOP to Vote on Removing Omar From House Foreign Affairs Committee
(Washington, DC) — Republican leaders could hold a vote today (Wednesday) to remove Congresswoman Ilhan Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee. A few G-O-P members oppose the effort, but House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Tuesday that he has the votes to do it. McCarthy has accused Omar of making anti-Semitic remarks and criticizing Israel. The Minnesota Democrat and Somali-American says the push to remove her from the committee is “motivated by bigotry.” Ousting Omar would require a majority vote of the full House of Representatives.
