- Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is doubling down on his decision to do away with the Housing Stabilization program. The agency was started in 2020 and has recently faced allegations of fraud. Walz says shutting down the HSS program instead of repairing it is because the problem is too widespread. The governor added that the state is reviewing all Medicaid-involved programs for possible fraud. Walz adds that his message to fraudsters is that when they are caught, they’re going to prison
- Authorities say a Sioux Falls woman was talking on her phone when she slammed into a parked Nobles County Sheriff’s Office vehicle. The collision happened last April in Dewald Township. Deputy Arnold Waldner suffered life-threatening injuries. Theresa Baer was charged with one count of criminal vehicular operation. She first denied being on her cellphone, but phone records collected by investigators showed that she was on an active call at the time of the crash.
- The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC, puck) has approved two new solar projects in western Minnesota. This will total four hundred thirty-five megawatts of new renewable energy capacity. The PUC granted site permits to Gopher State Solar in Renville County and Coneflower Energy in Lyon County. The Public Utilities Commission says these projects will ensure safe, reliable, and sustainable utility services at reasonable rates for customers.
