The Mankato Area Public Schools (MAPS) Board has completed its annual performance review of Superintendent Paul Peterson, conducted during a closed work session on June 16, 2025.

To complete the evaluation, the Board sought input from Superintendent Peterson’s leadership team—including cabinet members, school principals, and key district staff—in addition to each of the seven School Board members. The review assessed his performance across multiple standards, including instructional leadership; performance management and continuous improvement; resource management; employee, parent, and community engagement; leadership in the public arena; and board relations.

The Board also evaluated progress on key goals identified in the district’s strategic plan. These include boosting academic achievement for all students, successfully implementing elementary focus schools, advancing the district’s commitment to equitable practices, fostering leadership development within the administrative team, and managing facility referendum projects across the district.

Superintendent Peterson received “exemplary performance” or “professional performance” ratings in all measured areas. The Board noted his exceptional communication skills, approachability, responsible financial leadership, and his ability to lead with vision while remaining grounded in the day-to-day realities of the district.

“The Board’s review affirms our confidence in Superintendent Peterson’s leadership of the Mankato Area Public Schools,” said Board Chair Shannon Sinning. “The feedback we gathered was overwhelmingly positive, reflecting his deep commitment to the success of our students and staff and the effectiveness of our district. When the Board adopted a new strategic plan last year, we set a clear direction for MAPS. We are impressed with Superintendent Peterson’s execution of that plan and how he is leading the continuous change needed to build a future-focused model of education. The School Board remains confident in his ability to deliver on our mission of Excellence, Equity, Empowerment. Every Student, Every Day.”

Superintendent Peterson reflected on the evaluation by highlighting the strength of the district’s team and its shared commitment to students. “I appreciate the Board’s feedback and am grateful to be part of a team so deeply committed to students,” said Superintendent Peterson. “The progress we’ve made is a direct result of the dedication, talent, and heart that our staff bring to their work every day. Public educators are leading the way in Mankato, and I couldn’t be more proud of their efforts.”
