Mankato Area Public Schools to Welcome 18 German Exchange Students September 28th

Eighteen students from Germany will visit Mankato East and Mankato West high schools on Monday, Sept. 28, as part of the German American Partnership Program (GAPP). They will connect with students at both schools as they begin their time in Mankato.

The visit brings the exchange full circle. Earlier this year, 18 East and West students traveled to Europe through GAPP. During their time in Germany, they attended school, stayed with host families and practiced German through everyday conversations and activities. Now, MAPS students and families have the opportunity to share their schools, homes and community with visiting students.

The German students’ time in Mankato will also include a visit with Global Education at Minnesota State University, Mankato, and a meeting with the mayor of Mankato.

MAPS educator Kristine Barnes leads the district’s participation in GAPP, which connects American and German schools through travel, homestays and shared learning. The exchange gives students a chance to build friendships, use their language skills and experience daily life in another culture.
