Mankato Area School Board Approves 2026-27 and 2027-28 Academic Calendars

Mankato Area Public Schools (MAPS) extends a sincere thank you to the thousands of students, families, and staff members who participated in our recent surveys. Your input provided the framework for these decisions, ensuring the calendars reflect the values and priorities of our district.
The 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 calendars were developed by balancing survey results, state instructional requirements, employee agreements, and facility needs. Key highlights include:
- 2026-2027 Post-Labor Day Start: To accommodate essential summer construction and facility upgrades, the 2026-2027 school year will begin after Labor Day. This ensures all buildings are safe, functional, and ready to welcome students.
- 2027-2028 Pre-Labor Day Start: Based on majority feedback favoring an earlier start, the 2027-2028 school year will begin the week of August 30.
- Spring Break: Both calendars include a spring break of three or more consecutive days, which respondents identified as a high priority.
- Staff and Conference Days: While the district strives for alignment, student schedules vary slightly by level. Parent-teacher conference requirements (four days for elementary, two for middle school, and one for high school) are maintained to support the specific needs of students, families, and staff.
While the adopted calendars remain largely unchanged from the draft previews, two clerical errors identified by survey respondents were corrected:
- The 2027 Memorial Day holiday has been moved to the correct date of Monday, May 31.
- The Friday preceding Labor Day in 2027 has been corrected to an instructional day.
MAPS appreciates the community members who noted these errors and apologizes for any confusion caused by the initial drafts.
