Mankato Man Charged with DWI, Reckless Driving after Running Over Bystander in Parking Ramp

A Mankato man was charged with numerous driving offenses, including DWI and Reckless Driving after running over a bystander in a Mankato parking ramp. Faisal Mohamad Abdi of Mankato was charged Monday in Blue Earth County District Court with the following counts:

Criminal Vehicular Operation – Substantial Bodily Harm, a Felony with a Maximum Sentence of 3 years or a $10,000 fine, or both.

DWI with an Alcohol Concentration of 0.08 Within 2 Hours, a Misdemeanor with a Maximum Sentence of 90 days or a $1,000 fine, or both. 

DWI, a Misdemeanor with a Maximum Sentence of 90 days or a $1,000 fine, or both. 

Reckless driving, a Misdemeanor with a Maximum Sentence of 90 days or a $1,000 fine, or both. 

Driving After Suspension, a Misdemeanor with a Maximum Sentence of 90 days or a $1,000 fine, or both. 

According to the criminal complaint, at around 11pm on January 11th, Faisal Mohamad Abdi was observed in a confrontation with a group of bystanders and showed signs of intoxication. When Abdi attempted to leave the ramp, he ran over one of the bystanders. Abdi was later stopped by police and showed signs of impairment, while also having a suspended Kentucky driver’s license and a bottle of Ron Diaz within arms reach in the backseat. Abdi was initially unable to submit to a PBT but a later sample revealed a .141 BAC. The victim who was struck by Abdi in the ramp will require use of a walker while recovering from injuries sustained in the incident.
