Mankato Transit rolled out its updated summer bus schedule, effective now through August 17, 2025, with changes designed to optimize service during the summer months.

Route 1: Operating Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., ensures continued service around Minnesota State University during the suspension of Routes 8, 14, and 15, which will resume in the fall.

In addition to route updates, the fixed routes have an enhanced voice announcement system featuring automated interior and exterior stop announcements, digital displays, and text-to-speech messaging, improving accessibility and overall rider experience.

The new, fully automated system, is in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), specifically 49 CFR Section 37.167(b), which mandates audible announcements to assist riders with visual or other impairments.

“Implementing an automated system not only fulfills ADA requirements, but also enhances rider experience, driver and rider safety, and accessibility for all passengers,” said Shawn Schloesser, Associate Director of Transportation Planning Services.

The voice announcement system is part of the Mankato Transit System Technology Assessment, developed in collaboration with the National Center for Applied Transit Technology, and is supported by the 2024 Transportation Improvement Program. The total project budget was $350,000, including $70,000 in local funding. The system is implemented on fixed-route buses and is not on the City’s Mobility Buses used for paratransit services.
