Mankato’s Washington Elementary Named 2025–26 Minnesota School of Excellence

Washington Elementary School, part of Mankato Area Public Schools, has been named a 2025–26 Minnesota School of Excellence by the Minnesota Elementary School Principals’ Association (MESPA). Washington is one of only 13 schools statewide to earn this honor in 2025.

The School of Excellence distinction is among the state’s most rigorous and respected recognition programs for schools. Grounded in nationally recognized standards, the program highlights excellence in leadership, vision, student learning, adult learning culture, data-informed decision-making, and community engagement.

To earn this designation, schools complete a comprehensive one to two year process that includes self-study, strategic planning, and implementation rooted in collaborative reflection. The process is validated through peer review, with participation from the entire school community to ensure meaningful evaluation and ongoing improvement.
