Mavericks Beat Vikings to Claim NSIC Baseball Regular Season Title
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Minnesota State Mavericks (39-5, 31-4 NSIC) are the 2025 NSIC Champions after defeating the Augustana Vikings (31-14, 25-10 NSIC) 4-1 in game three of the series.
It was a great day for Matthew Fleischhacker, who broke the Minnesota State record for career walks with 121. After a slow start offensively, the Mavericks came alive in the fifth inning when Jake Berkland singled and later scored on a base hit from Logan Miller. Miller then crossed home plate on a double from Fleischhacker to give MSU a 2-0 lead. Augustana responded with an unearned run in the bottom half, but Minnesota State quickly regained control.
In the seventh inning, Berkland reached base again and scored on another double from Miller, extending the lead to 3-1. Lincoln Berry added some insurance in the eighth, launching a solo home run to right field to make it 4-1.
On the mound, Hunter Day and Jacob Gajic combined to shut down the Vikings’ offense, stranding 10 runners and limiting Augustana to just one unearned run. Gajic came on in relief in the sixth inning and helped the Mavericks escape a jam.
“Overall great team win. A strong starting pitching performance from Day and relief performance from Gajic combined with steady defense led to the win. Offensively Miller stood out with multiple quality at bats.” said head coach Matt Magers.
The Mavericks will travel to Wayne, Nebraska to face Wayne State in a double header on Tuesday, with the first pitch starting at 1:30 p.m.
