Clinical trials are underway at the Mayo Clinic on a new diabetes treatment that could potentially eliminate needle sticks and insulin injections. Doctor Andrew Storm says they are using a new endoscopic tool with non-damaging electric pulses to re-set the small intestine:

“These electric pulses, they encourage regeneration of the lining of the small intestine which is an important signaling organ in diabetes and in control of our blood sugars. So this is a brand new cutting-edge device invented here at the Mayo Clinic by some of my colleagues.”

Doctor Storm says the procedure only takes 30 to 45 minutes and can help blood sugar levels drop over the long term.  He says nothing will ever replace a healthy diet and exercise.
