Minnesota Regulators Warn of High Heating Costs, Assistance Available

State regulators are reminding Minnesotans that there is help available for families struggling to pay their heating bill.   Public Utilities Commissioner Joseph Sullivan says one option is the low-income home energy assistance program  (LIHEAP):

“Which is a federal program administered by the Department of Commerce. And LIHEAP for folks who qualify it’s a straight payment to help lower your bill. For some folks as well I would have them take a look at the weatherization program.”

Some Minnesota households could be eligible for up to 14 hundred dollars this heating season.  Sullivan says the weatherization assistance program is an opportunity to make your home more energy efficient by sealing air leaks, adding insulation and ensuring the furnace is working properly.
