Minnesota State Baseball Set to Host NCAA Region Tournament in 43rd All-Time Appearance

INDIANAPOLIS – Following regular season and NSIC Tournament Championships, the Minnesota State baseball team has qualified for the NCAA tournament for the 43rd time in program history and is ranked No. 2 in the Central Region.

The Mavericks will host the NCAA DII Central Regional Tournament. It is the ninth time MSU has been selected to host and first since 2013.

The Mavericks hold a 49-6 overall record and have qualified for the last six NCAA tournaments. Minnesota State is 83-91 all-time in NCAA Tournament games, including a 37-32 record under head coach Matt Magers. This will be MSU’s 15th trip to the NCAA Tournament under coach Magers.

Central Missouri is the top seed in the tournament and also hosts. Pittsburg State is the three seed, followed by Central Oklahoma as four seed, Arkansas Tech as the five seed and Henderson State as the six seed. Arkansas Monticello is the seventh seed and Harding is the eighth.

The Mavericks open against Arkansas Monticello on Thursday and are joined in the sub region by Pittsburg State and Henderson State. Central Missouri plays Harding and will also host Central Oklahoma and Arkansas Tech. Game times for the tournament are to be announced. The tournament is double elimination and will be played at ISG Field in Mankato.

The sub-regional champions will advance to a three-game super regional series at the highest remaining seed the following week, with the winner moving on to the NCAA Division II College World Series in Cary, North Carolina (May 31-June 7).
