Saint Peter Building Inspector and HRA Board President Honored with Statewide Leadership Award
The City of Saint Peter is proud to recognize Harry Jenness, the City’s Building Inspector and the Board President of the Saint Peter Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA), for receiving the 2025 Conrad Rettmer Commissioner Award, a statewide honor celebrating outstanding leadership in affordable housing and community development.
Jenness was recognized during the Minnesota NAHRO (National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials) annual conference and honored locally at the October City Council meeting.
Named after long-time housing advocate Conrad Rettmer, the award celebrates those who go above and beyond in service to their communities. Jenness was recognized for his hands-on leadership, commitment to tenants and staff, and deep dedication to improving housing and quality of life in Saint Peter.
“Harry is more than a commissioner—he’s a neighbor, a mentor, a problem-solver, and a friend,” said the Housing Authority Executive Director Michelle Connor. “His leadership is not just about policy—it’s about people.”
Harry’s journey with the HRA began not in a boardroom, but as a neighbor to Parkview Manor, where he became a trusted presence and a helping hand. From shoveling sidewalks to filling in on maintenance needs, his service has always gone beyond expectations. Appointed to the HRA Board in 2019 and elected Chair in 2021, Harry has led with compassion and humility—mentoring new staff, supporting residents, and helping guide the City’s housing programs with steady, people-centered leadership.
In addition to his volunteer service, Harry also serves as the City of Saint Peter’s Building Inspector, where he works to ensure safety, accessibility, and quality in local housing and development.
His dual roles reflect a deep commitment to strengthening the community from the ground up.
“Harry’s dedication to the people of Saint Peter truly embodies what public service is all about,” said City Administrator Todd Prafke. “He leads with heart, integrity, and a genuine desire to make this community better for everyone.”
The City of Saint Peter congratulates Harry Jenness on this well-deserved recognition and thanks him for his continued leadership and service to the community.
