Mankato Area Public Schools Community Education is proud to recognize the 2026 Spirit of Youth Award recipients, honoring individuals and groups who are making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people across the community.

Each year, the Spirit of Youth Awards highlight those who go beyond expectations to create supportive environments where youth feel a sense of belonging, build confidence, and develop the skills needed to thrive. From classrooms and extracurricular activities to community programs and mentorship, this year’s honorees reflect a deep commitment to helping young people grow and succeed.

“These individuals and groups show what is possible when adults and peers intentionally invest in young people,” said Audra Nissen Boyer, Director of Community Education. “Their work is not about recognition, it is about showing up every day, building trust, and helping youth discover their value and potential. That kind of impact stays with students long after the moment has passed.”

The 2026 Spirit of Youth Award recipients include:

  • Lennon Schweim, for fostering a welcoming and inclusive start to each school day for young learners
  • Dakota Meadows Middle School Unified Physical Education Students, for creating a culture of belonging and leading inclusion efforts among peers
  • National Honor Society for Dance Arts, for demonstrating integrity and service through mentorship and community engagement
  • Laura Fries, for empowering youth voices and creating opportunities for leadership and growth
  • Trisha Asher and Maddy Schultz, for guiding students to build confidence and navigate meaningful conversations
  • Officer Todd Mohr, for modeling integrity and building strong, trusting relationships with students
  • Henry Panowitsch, for teaching responsibility and commitment through hands-on environmental work
  • Liliana Cartagena, for advocating for students and families and ensuring all feel supported and included

The community is invited to celebrate these recipients at a public recognition event at 6:00 p.m. on May 27th, at Lincoln Community Center, 110 Fulton Street, Mankato.
