St. Peter Man Charged with Fleeing Police after DWI Stop
A St. Peter Man was charged with fleeing police after being stopped. Chane Eugeue Larson , age 50, of St. Peter was charged with a felony count of Fleeing a Peace Officer in a Motor Vehicle, a gross misdemeanor count of DWI, a gross misdemeanor count of Driving after cancellation and a misdemeanor count of Fleeing a Peace Officer By a Means Other Than a Motor Vehicle.
According to the criminal complaint: On November 8, 2024, North Mankato Police Department observed a silver Pontiac Bonneville going 38 miles per hour in an area with a posted speed limit of 30 miles per hour. North Mankato followed the silver Pontiac through a number of different intersections while the driver continued to speed and disregard various traffic signals and stop signs.
The silver Pontiac then merged onto US Highway 169. Emergency lights were initiated. After doing so, the silver Pontiac merged off of US Highway 169 near the South Riverfront Drive exit. The silver Pontiac eventually came to a stop near Owatonna Street. The driver then exited the vehicle and ran toward the backyard of a residence on Owatonna Street. The vehicle had an odor of alcohol and marijuana coming from inside. Officers observed observed meth pipes and a Four Loko on the vehicle’s floorboard. Police spoke with the passenger in the vehicle and learned that the passenger had outstanding warrants for their arrest. Backup arrived and stayed with the passenger as Police went to locate the driver.
After walking in the direction the driver had run off to, a witness/homeowner told police that the driver was hiding behind their shed. An officer approached the shed, and after clearing some items from out of the way, could see the drivers’ legs protruding from under the shed. The driver was ordered to come out from behind the shed and he did. The driver was identified as Chane Eugene Larson. Larson appeared intoxicated as he had a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his person as well as bloodshot eyes. A horizontal gaze nystagmus test was administered in which Larson failed. Larson was then placed under arrest. In the meantime, Officers searched the vehicle and found what appeared to be methamphetamine.
The passenger was transferred to an adjacent county due to their outstanding warrants. Larson was taken to the North Mankato Police Department where he eventually submitted to a blood draw.
