This is the time of year that people go door-to-door selling their business services. The City reminds residents to stay alert and informed about door-to-door peddlers and solicitors operating in our community.

Know Your Rights:
The City requires peddlers and solicitors to be licensed or registered with the City. Before engaging with anyone at your door, ask to see their city-issued permit or identification. If they can’t provide one, you can ask them to leave.

Report Suspicious Activity:
If you encounter a peddler acting aggressively, refusing to leave your property, or appearing suspicious, please contact local law enforcement. If you ever feel unsafe, call 911.

“No Soliciting” Signs:
Posting a clearly visible “No Soliciting” sign near your front door can be an effective way to deter unwanted visits. Peddlers are expected to respect these signs. Violations should be reported.

Support Local – Safely:
We encourage supporting local businesses and charitable organizations. Always verify who you’re giving money to. Don’t feel pressured into quick decisions at your door.

Together, we can keep our neighborhoods safe, respectful, and informed.

The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office recently sent out a Scam Stopper Alert with good tips for the public.

Overall, if you start to feel uneasy or uncomfortable, trust your gut and end the conversation as quickly as possible. This an informational advisory only as there are no recent reports of problems with door-to-door sales in Mankato. If you are suspicious of someone who approached your residence or believe you fell victim to a scam, call 911 to report it.
