United Way Reading Festival Offers Free Kids’ Books, Activities: Nov. 19

Children and families are invited to Greater Mankato Area United Way’s annual Reading Festival from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 19 at the Mankato Family YMCA Blue Gym.

The free event is sponsored by Capstone and is in partnership with more than 20 local organizations to promote literacy and celebrate reading.

The Reading Festival includes free Capstone books, activity/craft stations for Pre-K through 3rd-graders, and literacy information for parents. All children welcome.

This year’s event is themed “Dive into Reading.”

Participating organizations include: The Arc Minnesota, Blue Earth County Library System, Capstone, Children’s Museum of Southern MN, Families First of MN, Girl Scouts, Greater Mankato Area United Way, Greater Mankato Diversity Council, LSS Crisis Nursery, Mankato Family YMCA, Mankato Area Public Schools Early Learning, Mankato Clinic, Minnesota Valley Action Council Head Start, MN Reading Corps, MNSU Elementary & Literacy Department, MNSU Rec N’ Read Programs and Services, North Mankato Taylor Library, Profinium, WellShare International, YWCA Mankato New American Families.

The Reading Festival is an initiative of United Way’s Books for Kids program:
Books for Kids is a Greater Mankato Area United Way program designed to instill the joy and benefits of reading in children by providing free books and developmental resources. Last year, Books for Kids distributed nearly 30,000 Capstone books to children in Greater Mankato Area United Way’s service area of Blue Earth, Le Sueur, Nicollet and Waseca counties.
