MANKATO — In the KTOE studio earlier today, Mayor Najwa Massad provided updates on the ongoing flood situation in the Mankato area and warned of the remaining dangers as the water now recedes, such as backed up sewage and other raw debris left in parks and other public spaces that the city is closing off and working on. MnDOT bridge crews have been performing log jam and debris removal operations near the North Star Bridge in Mankato to help keep the bridge safe for the traveling public in Southern Minnesota. They posted a video on social media showing crews using equipment to fish out debris from the river gathering at the edges of the bridge platform and column. MnDOT is reporting that US Hwy. 169 is now open from Mankato to St. Peter for local traffic. Drivers should watch for wildlife near the roadways that was displaced by the flooding.
