VINE Offering A Fall Prevention Program

Falls are common and costly, especially among Americans aged 65 and older. According to the CDC, one out of four older adults will fall each year in the United States, making falls the leading cause of injury and injury death in this age group. However, falls can be preventable.

To help avoid falling, VINE is offering Stepping On, an evidence-based fall prevention program aimed at reducing falls and improving balance. This seven-week program is specifically designed for people at risk of falling, who have a fear of falling, or who have fallen. Participants will learn how to identify and remove or avoid fall hazards in the home and outside, and how vision, hearing, medication, and footwear affect their risk of falling. In class, participants will learn simple strength and balance exercises and how to get back up properly if a fall does occur.

Classes will be held on Tuesdays, March 18 – April 30 from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. at the VINE Adult Community Center.

Stepping On is free and open to the public. For more information or to register call VINE’s Health and Fitness Center Manager, Jen Wunderlich at (507) 386-5588.
