Governor Tim Walz leads Republican Scott Jensen 51 percent to 43 in the latest KSTP/Survey USA poll just released.  Carleton College analyst Steve Schier says those numbers suggest Walz is in the strongest position of any Democratic candidate for statewide office:

” ’cause he’s over 50 percent, and the undecided is only four percent.  So that makes it a very steep climb for Jensen, if these numbers are close to accurate.”

The poll finds Jensen leads in western and northeastern Minnesota, but Walz is ahead in southern Minnesota and in particular in the metro area, where Schier says his margin could be large enough to eclipse Jensen’s lead elsewhere in the state.

Schier points to one particularly interesting poll result in the governor’s race, that Jensen…

“He’s leading by 15 percent amongst those who say inflation’s the most important.  He’s leading by 31 percent amongst those who say crime is most important — yet he is behind.”

Schier says he suspects Jensen is seen as personally unlikeable and negative because of all the advertising against him.
