Arrest Warrant Issued for Suspect in New Year’s Eve Shooting
An arrest warrant has been issued for the suspect in a New Years Eve shooting at a Mankato business. Nyakong Deng is currently being sought for the incident which occurred at approximately 5:37 PM and left a woman hospitalized for a gunshot wound.
After the shooting, Deny leaves the scene in a Kia Seoul onto Highway 169, and collides with a vehicle that is traveling on Highway 169. The Kia then fled the area. The Kia was located by deputies unoccupied. It had extensive damage from the vehicle collision and multiple bullet holes from the shooting. Deng’s driver’s license was located in a purse in the passenger compartment of the Kia. The handgun Deng dropped onto the parking lot was located and identified as a 9mm P80 handgun.
Deng’s whereabouts are unknown. Multiple attempts to locate Deng were made by law enforcement, including conducting surveillance at the address listed on her driver’s license, speaking with her relatives who were unwilling or unable to provide information on Deng’s hereabouts, and investigating other addresses associated with Deng. Deng’s most recent phone number is no longer accurate. The investigation is ongoing.
