Blue Earth County Library and Veterans Services Office Announce New Talking Service Book Club
The Blue Earth County Library, in partnership with the Blue Earth County Veterans Services Office, is proud to announce the Talking Service Book Club—a new opportunity for veterans, active and reserve-duty personnel, and military families to come together in reflection and conversation.
The Talking Service Book Club invites participants to explore short, impactful writings about military service, authored by some of the world’s most renowned writers. Each meeting encourages participants to share their thoughts, exchange perspectives, and challenge their assumptions through engaging, informal discussions. Nathan Pike, Blue Earth County Assistant Veterans Service Officer, will facilitate these conversations.
The book club will meet on the first Wednesday of every month at the Blue Earth County Library, beginning on Wednesday, March 5th, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. For the first session, we will discuss an excerpt from Tim O’Brien’s The Things They Carried. Refreshments will be provided.
To attend, please visit the Blue Earth County Library’s Information Desk to register and pick up a copy of Standing Down: From Warrior to Civilian. This anthology, created by the Great Books Foundation, is the primary text for the program and will be available for you to borrow for the duration of the book club.
This program is made possible by a generous donation from the Morson-Ario-Strand VFW Post 950.
