Blue Earth County Sheriff Jeff Wersal announced today that he will run for reelection this fall.
Sheriff Wersal released a statement, which read:
“I have enjoyed the privilege of serving as Blue Earth County Sheriff over the last three years. During my first term as Sheriff, I surrounded myself with top notch leaders and dedicated staff. My priorities have always been the safety of the public and the safety and well-being of the inmates in the Blue Earth County Jail.
The Sheriff’s Office has undergone several improvements to public safety under my leadership. We have added a full-time emergency manager and quickly benefited from the position during and after the historic floods of 2024. We added a K9 unit with two dogs that can detect dangerous controlled substances as well as track and locate dangerous individuals. The Sheriff’s Office entered into a law enforcement contract with the City of Eagle Lake to ensure their residents have a fully staffed law enforcement presence in their city. The Sheriff’s Office significantly increased the nursing hours in the jail, going from having a nurse on site from 48 hours per week, to 128 hours per week. We have also added deputies to the overnight patrol shift, made improvements to equipment and technology, and increased our positive engagement with the public attending and organizing community events.
I want to thank the citizens of Blue Earth County for the support you have given the Sheriff’s Office, and I look forward to continuing to serve as your Sheriff.”
