On October 16th, 2025, the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the MN BCA of a potential issue involving the DataMaster DMT housed at the Blue Earth County Justice Center.

The DataMaster DMT is a desktop breath testing device used by law enforcement for evidentiary measurement of alcohol levels in many impaired driving investigations.

The specific issue centers on incorrect numeric entries made by a Sheriff’s Office employee during setup of the instrument at the Justice Center on October 17th, 2024.

The issue has been corrected but 161 tests conducted between October 17th, 2024, and May 5th, 2025, are being reviewed to determine potential implications.

Law enforcement agencies involved include the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office, Mankato Department of Public Safety, Minnesota State Patrol, Lake Crystal Police Department, and Mapleton Police Department.

The DataMaster DMT is a trusted evidentiary device. Additional guidance is expected on whether the numeric entry issue affected the accuracy of any tests.

Individuals with questions that believe they were the subject of a test during this timeframe are encouraged to contact the attorney that represented them for guidance.

No additional information is available at this time.
