From TREEmendous to Today: Saint Peter Celebrates Gorman Park’s Next Chapter
The City of Saint Peter invites residents to join in celebrating the past, present, and future of Gorman Park at a special Open House and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Saturday, November 7, from 1–3 p.m.
This event marks the official completion of Phase One of the Gorman Park Improvement Project while honoring the legacy of TREEmendous, the original community-built playground that brought neighbors together more than 20 years ago. The new playground and space are designed with that same spirit of togetherness in mind—blending modern amenities with the history of what made the park so special.
“TREEmendous showed what happens when a community comes together to create something lasting,” said Mayor Nowell. “We are proud to carry that legacy forward as we open this new chapter for Gorman Park.”
The celebration will include:
- Open House (1–3 p.m.):City staff and project leaders will share information about the history of TREEmendous, the planning behind the park improvements, and what’s next for Phase Two, beginning in spring 2026. Light refreshments and snacks will be available while supplies last.
- Ribbon Cutting Ceremony (2 p.m.):Speakers will include Mayor Nowell, Martha Marrow (a community member involved in the original TREEmendous playground project), and staff from Recreation and Leisure Services and Public Works. Donors and project partners will also be recognized.
Phase One improvements include:
- Inclusive, accessible play equipment
- Walking trails that connect all corners of the park
- Shade structures, picnic areas, and safety walls
- Native plantings and rain gardens to support pollinators
- A literary garden offering children a space where books, programs, and nature meet
Looking ahead: Phase Two will expand on these improvements, with one of the most exciting additions being a splash pad, a highly requested feature by residents.
The event will be held rain or shine at Gorman Park. All residents, families, and community members are welcome to attend.
