A Mankato man is facing a series of serious charges after allegedly leading police on a brief pursuit and refusing a court-ordered chemical test. Jon Dorien Brown, 51, has been charged in Blue Earth County District Court with felony refusal to submit to a chemical test, felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, gross misdemeanor driving after license cancellation, and misdemeanor obstruction of legal process.

According to the criminal complaint, the incident began shortly after midnight on June 29, 2025, when Mankato Department of Public Safety attempted to stop a vehicle with no taillights that had been seen swerving after leaving the downtown bar area. The driver, later identified as Brown, allegedly continued driving for about a mile, at times swerving onto lawns, before finally stopping in front of a residence.

When approached, Brown reportedly exhibited signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and the smell of alcohol. He became confrontational and resisted arrest. After being transported to the hospital for a shoulder complaint, Brown was served with a judge-approved warrant for a blood or urine sample, which he refused despite being warned of the legal consequences. Brown has a prior felony DWI conviction and several other impaired driving offenses, and his license has been canceled as inimical to public safety. He remains in custody pending further court proceedings.
